The "Lady Blunt" Replica Vuillaume Carved Pegs
Designed in the mid-1800’s by Parisian luthier and violin dealer Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, this carved “Napoleonic” peg is among the most iconic and well-preserved musical instrument fittings to have survived to this day.
An avid collector of classical instruments, J.B. Vuillaume is known to have owned more than 250 historically significant violins, violas, and cellos, many purchased directly from the estate of famed violin dealer Luigi Tarisio.
With a spirit of entrepreneurship and artistic vision, Vuillaume occasionally replaced the pegs, tailpieces, bridges, and fingerboards on his favorite pieces, in some cases designing intricately carved fittings to bolster the look and feel of his instruments to match their unique, impeccable sound.
Crafted for Antonio Stradivari’s 1721 “Lady Blunt” violin, this peg design features detailed carvings of foliage along the perimeter, surmounted at the top by a blossoming rose. While similar in some characteristics to the “Alard” design, the “Lady Blunt” peg features an upward curving base-lip, distinctly blooming petals, and a thinner overall body.
Through our careful analysis of Vuillaume’s original designs, over a half century of luthier experience and the aid of modern CNC technology, we are pleased to offer a replica of the “Baron Knoop” peg that is sure to inspire any musician to reach new heights in their artistic ability.
